Young Artist Program Auditions

Auditions for Opera Queensland’s Young Artist Program are held annually during Opera Queensland's General Auditions period.

The deadline for applications for the Young Artist Program for 2011 has now passed. Thank you to everybody who auditioned.

Singers:

Applicants for the 2011 intake of the Young Artist Program are required to submit the following material:

  • A CD containing a recent, clear recording of reasonable (not necessarily professional) quality with three contrasting arias. Of these three arias, one must be sung in Italian (as original language), one in English (translation or original) and one in either French or German (both as original language).
  • A current CV that clearly details the following:
    • relevant education and career information
    • a comprehensive repertoire list of roles, ensembles and solo pieces (operatic, classical vocal, oratorio and music theatre) both performed and studied
    • the names and contact details of two referees drawn from one or more of the following: voice teacher, vocal coach, Head of Vocal Department, Chorus Master, language coach, stage director
    • a recent passport-sized photograph.

Short-listed applicants will be contacted in April 2010 to finalise an audition time.

On their audition day, short-listed applicants will be required to undertake a vocal stage audition for which they will have prepared five arias, a short interview with the panel and a 20-30 minute coaching session with either the Director of the Young and Developing Artist Programs or an Opera Queensland representative.

Repetiteurs:

From time to time a trainee position may be offered for advanced level repetiteurs through Opera Queensland’s Young Artist Program. Only applicants with significant experience and knowledge of operatic and classical vocal repertoire together with strong pianistic, sight-reading and language skills will be invited to audition, based on their application and references together with staffing requirements for the following season. Repetiteurs are not required to submit a recording with their application and will be contacted in person should additional information be required. Please note that applicants not selected to audition for the Young Artist Program may be considered for opportunities in Education and other areas throughout the following season, should these arise.

  • A current CV that clearly details the following:
    • relevant education and career information
    • a comprehensive repertoire list (operatic, classical vocal, oratorio and music theatre) both performed and studied
    • the names and contact details of two referees drawn from one or more of the following: teacher, coach, Chorus Master, language coach, stage director
