Opera Queensland brings its 2009 Season to a stunning close with Giuseppe Verdi?s masterwork, Rigoletto. This wretched tale of a father?s love is brilliantly brought to life in Elijah Moshinsky’s superb Fellini-esque production which opens on 17 October at the Lyric Theatre for a six-performance season.

Rigoletto - Michael Lewis withdraws from Brisbane season of Rigoletto.
John Bolton Wood takes over the role.
Opera Queensland's Chief Executive/Artistic Director Chris Mangin, regretfully announces the withdrawal of MICHAEL LEWIS OAM, from the title role in the company's upcoming production of Rigoletto. Mr Lewis is seriously ill and will be unable to resume professional activities until November this year.

Hansel & Gretel - Fairytale opera set to enchant students in 2009.
Opera Queensland’s children’s production of Hansel & Gretel enters its third touring year. To date, over 41,500 students have seen this enchanting chamber opera, based on the classic fable by the Brothers Grimm.

Fidelio - One man's life is in the hands of the woman he loves.
An Australian première production from South African Director/Designer Marthinus Basson. This powerful production of Beethoven’s only completed opera makes its Australian première on 11 July at the Conservatorium Theatre for a ten-performance season through to 1 August. South African director and designer Marthinus Basson, who makes his Australian debut, has given this dramatic work a contemporary new edge.

La traviata - To survive she loved many, but her heart belonged to only one ...
Opera Queensland will launch its 2009 season on 16 May with Elijah Moshinsky's gorgeous production of Giuseppe Verdi's eternal love story, La traviata. The six-performance season will be staged in the newly refurbished Lyric Theatre and will be a true test to the improvements undertaken in the multi-million dollar renovation..

Dirty Apple - Rehearsals commenced today (14 April).
Rehearsals for Opera Queensland’s edgy youth opera Dirty Apple commenced today with the artists and members of the creative team meeting for the first time at this morning’s company welcome. The production will make its world première in July as part of the Queensland Music Festival and Q150 celebrations. Seven performances will be staged at the Brisbane PowerhouseTheatre between 18 and 25 July.
