The countdown is on to the launch of a new children's opera –
Space Encounters
Opera Queensland is counting down to the première of Space Encounters, its latest children’s opera for primary school students which will be launched on Tuesday, 20 July. Throughout Term 3, the production will be staged in schools throughout the Brisbane metropolitan area, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. Touring in regional and remote schools throughout Queensland will commence in 2011.

A new production of The Merry Widow waltzes into brisbane next week - Tickets are selling fast
Opera Queensland’s gorgeous new production of Lehár’s bubbly operetta The Merry Widow makes its debut at the Conservatorium Theatre next Saturday night, 10 July. Tickets for the 10-performance season are selling fast with fewer than 500 tickets remaining and many of the performances already sold out.

A new production of The Merry Widow makes it debut in July
Opera Queenslan’s new production of Lehár’s operetta The Merry Widow will make its debut at the Conservatorium Theatre on 10 July. Following the 10-performance Brisbane Season, the fully-staged production with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra Ensemble will tour regional Queensland throughout August with performances on the Gold Coast, in Toowoomba, Maryborough, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay and Townsville.

Hye Seoung Kwon withdraws from Opera Queensland’s production of The Elixir of Love, Natalie Jones take over the role of Adina
Opera Queensland’s Chief Executive/Artistic Director Chris Mangin announced this morning that Hye Seoung Kwon has advised she must regrettably withdraw from the company’s upcoming production of The Elixir of Love owing to pressing personal reasons.

The Gambling Community Benefit Fund backs the talents of emerging opera singers
The Queensland Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund has generously provided funding for Opera Queensland to purchase a new Samick NSG-186 grand piano (with a retail value of $29,995) which will be used in the training of artists who participate in the company’s highly-regarded Young Artist Program.

The creative brilliance of Simon Phillips, one of Australia’s most innovative directors, places Donizetti’s bubbly comedy against the backdrop of the Australian outback. Filled with fun and laughter, this colourful production follows the story of a naïve shepherd, Nemorino, and his endeavours to win the heart of the beautiful and wealthy landowner, Adina.

Opera Queensland proudly presents a new production of Lehár’s whimsical operetta The Merry Widow from director Anna Sweeny and talented Queensland designer Simone Romaniuk (whose stunning creations were showcased in the company’s 2008 production of The Magic Flute). This new work will make its world première at the Conservatorium Theatre in July. Following the Brisbane season, the fully-staged production will tour regional Queensland in August with performances on the Gold Coast, in Toowoomba, Maryborough, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay and Townsville.

Verdi’s epic opera Aida makes a dramatic return to the Lyric Theatre stage in this stunning new production conceived by Graeme Murphy, one of Australia’s foremost choreographers and directors. Murphy’s vision of Egypt is brilliantly realised in this interpretation through the clever use of digital technology and wonderful set and costume designs.
