James Clayton
James joined West Australian Opera’s Young Artist Program in 2006. His performances for the company include the roles of King of Egypt in Aida, the title role in The Marriage of Figaro, Ashby in La fanciulla del West, Nourabad in The Pearl Fishers, Schaunard in La bohème, Papageno in The Magic Flute, Steersman in Tristan und Isolde, Second Soldier in The Love of the Nightingale, Mars in Orpheus in the Underworld and Marullo in Rigoletto. Other engagements include the role of Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro (for Autonomous Productions) and performing the roles of Junkman and Señor in a concert production of Candide (at the 2006 Perth International Arts Festival).
On the concert platform, James has performed as a soloist in Fauré’s Requiem (with the Collegium Symphonic Choir), Mozart’s Mass in C minor (with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra) and Messiah (with the University of Western Australia Choral Society). He also appeared in concert with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and performed at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
Recent engagements include the roles of Escamillo in Carmen, Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana, Tonio in Pagliacci, Balstrode in Peter Grimes and the title role in The Mikado at Opera in the Park (for West Australian Opera).
