Geoffrey Harris
Geoffrey Harris trained in Sydney, where he was a Young
Artist with the Opera Australia Studio. In
1996, he travelled to Germany to take up
the Bayreuth Scholarship awarded by the
German Government. He has also studied
internationally with Campogagliani, Kaiser-Breme and Fernando Bandera.
Geoffrey made his debut with Opera Australia as Don José in Carmen. His subsequent performances for the company include the roles of Beppo
in Fra Diavolo, Riccardo in Triumph of Honour, Steersman in The Flying
Dutchman, Radamès in Aida, Calaf and Pang in Turandot, Alfred in
Die Fledermaus, Bob Boles in Peter Grimes, the title role and Cassio in
Otello, Vítek in The Makropulos Secret, Red Whiskers in Billy Budd, Shabby
Peasant in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Ismaele in Nabucco and The Beadle
in Sweeney Todd.
Other engagements include the roles of Rodolfo in La bohème, Don José
in Carmen, Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto, Duke of Dunstable in Patience
and Count Tassilo in Countess Maritza (for West Australian Opera),
Flamand in Capriccio, Rodolfo in La bohème, Don José and Remendado
in Carmen, Alfredo in La traviata, Chairman Mao in Nixon in China, Cassio
in Otello, Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville and Jaquino in Fidelio (for State Opera of South Australia), Gabriel von Eisenstein and Alfred in
Die Fledermaus, Don Basilio in The Marriage of Figaro, Camille de Rosillon
in The Merry Widow, the title role and Cassio in Otello, Calaf and Pang
in Turandot, Pedrillo in The Escape from the Seraglio, Steersman in The
Flying Dutchman and Remendado in Carmen (for Opera Queensland),
Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto, Alfredo Germont in La traviata, Tamino in
The Magic Flute, Don José in Carmen, Rodolfo in La bohème, Rodriguez
in Don Quixote, Earl Tolloller in Iolanthe and Goro in Madama Butterfly (for
Victoria State Opera), Calaf in Turandot, Don José in Carmen and Rodolfo
in La bohème (for NBR New Zealand Opera) and Don Alvaro in La forza del
destino and Frederik in A Little Night Music (for Canterbury Opera).
He has also appeared in productions of Bride of Fortune (for the Perth
International Arts Festival), Nixon in China, Transposed Heads, Lady
Macbeth of Mtsensk, The Makropulos Secret and Inner Voices (for the
Adelaide Festival of Arts) and Bitter Calm and Madama Butterfly (for
the New Zealand International Arts Festival) and in concert with all the
national symphony orchestras.
