Hye Seoung graduated from Hanyang University (in Seoul) with a Bachelor of Vocal Music, after which time she travelled to Italy to further her studies at the Milan Conservatory. She migrated to Australia in 2001. The following year, she was the recipient of The Australian Singing Competition Opera Award (which enabled her to study in London with Tony Legge) and the MBS National Young Performers Award.

Hye Seoung was a member of Opera Queensland’s Young Artist Program in 2002 and 2003, during which time she covered the roles of Leïla in Les pêcheurs de perles, Nedda in Pagliacci and Clorinda in La Cenerentola. She made her principal role debut with the company in 2003 as Zerlina in Don Giovanni and covered the role of Donna Anna in the same production. Most recently, she performed the role of Liù in the company’s production of Turandot. In 2005, she joined Opera Australia’s Young Artist Program. Her subsequent performances for the company include the roles of Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Giulietta in The Capulets and the Montagues, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Nannetta in Falstaff, Frasquita and Micaëla in Carmen, Dorinda in Orlando, Mimì in La bohème, Leïla in The Pearl Fishers, Heavenly Being 1 in The Pilgrim’s Progress, Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, A Siren in Rinaldo, Liù in Turandot, Countess Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica and the title role and Oberto in Alcina. She also performed the role of Mimì in OzOpera’s touring production of La bohème.

Other engagements include performing Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Stabat Mater, Poulenc’s Gloria and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi in Italy), Mozart’s Requiem (at Macquarie University) and appearing at Opera in the Vineyard (at Stanthorpe).
