Milijana was born in Serbia, graduating from the University of Belgrade with a degree in Fine Arts. She made her operatic debut at the Belgrade National Theatre performing the roles of Third Lady in The Magic Flute and Tisbe in La Cenerentola.

In 2001, Milijana won a two-year scholarship to study at the Teatro alla Scala Academy for the Specialisation of Opera Singers, during which time she understudied the role of Dalila in Samson et Dalila and performed the role of Una Grecha in Iphigénie en Aulide. She made her principal role debut at La Scala as Cuniza in Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio. Other engagements include the roles Emma in Ugo, Conte di Parigi (in Bergamo, at La Scala and at Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania), Maddalena in Rigoletto (in Serbia and at Teatro Comunale di Atri), the title role in Carmen (in Serbia and Tuscany), Marchesa di Berchenfild in La figlia del reggimento (which has been released on DVD and recorded for the NAXOS label), Eboli in Don Carlo (in Seoul and for Opera Hong Kong) and Baronessa in Chérubin and Fenena in Nabucco (at the Cagliari Theatre in Sardinia). Australian engagements include the roles of Ježibaba in Rusalka, Principessa in Suor Angelica, Venus in Tannhäuser, Azucena in Il trovatore, Arvidson in Un ballo in maschera, Adelaide in Arabella and Amneris in Aida (for Opera Australia).

Concert engagements include performing Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle (in Sardinia), Mozart’s Requiem (with The Queensland Orchestra), Verdi’s Requiem (with The Queensland Orchestra and Adelaide Symphony Orchestra), appearing at Opera in the Vineyards (in the Yarra Valley and the Hunter Valley) as well as performing at a gala concert at La Scala.
