Ian Vayne
Ian began his music studies with the violin. He then studied voice, completing postgraduate studies at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. He also studied with Daniel Ferro (in New York) and at the International Opera Studio (in Zürich). He has been the winner of the ABC Young Performers competition and the Australian finals of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions.
Ian’s performances include the roles of Tonio in Pagliacci (at the Basel Riehen Opera Festival), the title role in Macbeth (at the Theater Basel), Pentheus in The Bassarids, the title role in Simon Boccanegra, Giorgio Germont in La traviata and Tonio in Pagliacci (for the Stadttheater Freiburg), Dandini in La Cenerentola, the title role in Der fliegende Holländer and Scarpia in Tosca (in Dessau) and Don Carlos in Ernani (in Linz). Australian engagements include the roles of Scarpia in Tosca, Count di Luna in Il trovatore, Anckarstroem in Un ballo in maschera and Gérard in Andrea Chénier (for Opera Australia) and Michonnet in Adriana Lecouvreur, Figaro in The Barber of Seville, the title role in Eugene Onegin, Count Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro, Lescaut in Manon Lescaut, Count di Luna in Il trovatore and Gérard in Andrea Chénier (for State Opera of South Australia).
Ian’s concert repertoire includes Bach’s St John Passion, Beethoven’s Mass in C minor, the Brahms, Fauré and Handel Requiems, Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Little Organ Mass and Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death.
