Season 2009 – a season of Revelations

Opera Queensland’s Season 2009 – Revelations – will take audiences on an operatic journey of redemption, justice and betrayal with a core three-opera season of the finest calibre.

The curtain is raised in May to reveal the glamorous scenes of Paris with Verdi’s La traviata. We then head to the darkest dungeons of a state prison with the Australian première of Beethoven’s sole opera Fidelio. A tragic tale of sex, violence, betrayal and revenge offers a gut-wrenching conclusion to the year with Verdi’s masterwork, Rigoletto.

A superb line-up of Australian and international artists will present these works on the Lyric and Conservatorium Theatre stages.

Three optional events are also on offer: a recital starring David Hobson and Teddy Tahu Rhodes; a concert production to mark the State’s 150th year of independence, Waltzing Our Matilda; and a provocative new opera, Dirty Apple.
